Injury Treatment

What do you do if you have a dental injury? What is the next move? Dr. Alvarez in West Palm Beach, Florida, is available for emergency dentistry. Our office is ready to administer the emergency relief you need.

Some injuries should be treated immediately, or they can progress into serious complications. If you have a minor break or a chipped tooth, it would probably be okay to wait until you can call the office during normal business hours.

However, if you have a severe break or a large piece of tooth missing, there is tooth nerve damage, or a tooth completely knocked out, you will need immediate attention.

If the tooth is completely removed from the socket, handle it as little as possible. If you can fit it back into the empty socket, replace it, and gently bite down onto moist gauze or a wet tea bag. Be very careful not to swallow the tooth.

If replacing the tooth is not possible, rinse it off and place it in a small container with either mild or your saliva to keep it in good condition until either a doctor or a dentist can see you.

Severe tooth pain could be caused by a cracked tooth root or an abscess. Call Dr. Alvarez’s office to be worked into the schedule. Our staff will do their best to accommodate all emergencies.

If the injury happens outside of normal business hours, call the office line for after-hour emergency instructions.

If needed, go directly to the emergency room. An emergency room doctor can determine whether your situation can wait until you can get into the office, and they can usually offer pain relief in the meantime.
